Advisory board
Gudrun Østby is Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and Editor of the Journal of Peace Research. In 2019-2020 she was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Center for International Development & Conflict Management, University of Maryland. Much of her research focuses on the socioeconomic consequences of political violence (in particular health and education), conflict-related sexual- and gender-based violence, horizontal inequalities and conflict, Islamist radicalization, and the effectiveness of development aid.
Her work has appeared in journals such as Demography, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Population and Development Review, Review of Educational Research, Social Science & Medicine, and World Development. She has done consultancy work for i.a. Save the Children, UNESCO, USAID, and the World Bank. She is the recipient of the 2022 Fulbright Best Article of the Year award and is alumna member of the Young Academy of Norway.
